Galan Moody
Biography
Galan joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UCSB as an Assistant Professor in July 2019 and is a thrust co-lead of the UCSB NSF Quantum Foundry. Prior to moving to Santa Barbara, he was a Research Scientist (2015-2019) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, Colorado, a National Research Council postdoctoral fellow at NIST (2013-2015), and a postdoctoral associate at the University of Texas Austin (2013). He received his PhD in Physics (2013) and his BSc in Engineering Physics (2008) from the University of Colorado Boulder. He is the recipient of an AFOSR YIP award (2020) and an NSF CAREER award (2021).
Research
Professor Moody's Quantum Photonics Lab develops nanophotonic and optoelectronic technologies for a wide range of applications – from photonic quantum computing to communications, networking, and sensing. Our efforts are focused on addressing important challenges in these areas through the discovery of new nanoscale materials and nanostructures, fabricating and testing heterogeneous quantum photonic devices, and developing ultra-sensitive measurement techniques for benchmarking device performance spanning visible to telecommunication wavelengths, cryogenic to ambient temperatures, and DC to RF frequencies. Specific areas of interest are heterogeneous quantum photonic integrated circuits based on AlGaAs, silicon nitride, and silicon, hybrid electro-optomechanical quantum systems with surface acoustic wave resonators, and nanophotonics with 2D materials and III-V quantum dots.
